About
Blaise Keys has been making music for about as long as he can remember. Before there was a career, there was a toy keyboard, his parents’ cassette decks and turntables, and an obsession with figuring out how sound worked.
By his early teens, he was already recording songs. He wrote and rapped because he loved hip hop, and started making beats for a simple reason: he needed something to rap over.
Around the same time, a piano teacher in Strasbourg noticed that Blaise came alive when he improvised. That led him deep into jazz, soul and the harmonic language of North American music. His teenage record collection was just as eclectic, moving between Nirvana, European dance and techno, and the French rap of Assassin, NTM and IAM.
As professional opportunities started coming, nobody was really calling for Blaise the rapper. They were calling for Blaise the pianist, the composer, the guy behind the music. So that’s where his career took him.
That instinct behind the piano is still at the centre of how he works today. In a session, Blaise tunes into where an artist is emotionally and starts from there, using the piano to find a musical language they can share. The best ideas come from that connection, when two different sensibilities meet and something new takes shape. That sense of connection is also the idea behind the name of his company, Résonance.
Musically, Blaise moves easily between worlds. Rap, trap, soul, electronic music and North African influences have all found their way into his work. Jazz gave him a deep harmonic vocabulary, while his own taste often pulls those harmonies somewhere more melancholic, even when the record itself is meant to move.
Over the past two decades, his work has earned diamond, platinum and gold certifications, with credits including Damso, Bosh, Saint Levant, Niska, SCH and Manal.
Based in Toronto since 2026, Blaise is now building the next chapter of his career closer to the hip hop, R&B and electronic music that have shaped much of his musical world.
After twenty years, his idea of a great session remains simple. It moves fast, nobody watches the clock, people laugh, ideas flow, and a few hours later, there’s a song where there wasn’t one before.
